About Our Church

Who We Are

File:Downtown Elko.jpgThe Bridge is a group of people who desire to learn how to love God and others more and more.  Our congregation draws upon the greater Elko/Spring Creek area. Because of our passion for people, anyone and everyone is welcome--no matter what stage of life, good or bad, they find themselves in.  We like to say that we want to be 'a safe place to hear a dangerous message.'

Our Mission Mandate

The mission of The Bridge Baptist Church is:

Making disciples of Jesus,

one person at a time.

Every church's 'marching orders' from Jesus are included in what is called The Great Commission:

(Jesus) “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

                                                                                                                     Matthew 28:18-20a

Making disciples is the natural result of loving God and loving others (The Great Commandment)...

(Jesus) “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”                    Mark 12:30-31

This making of disciples always happens within the context of everyday life and everyday relationships...

(The Shema) Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”                                                                                   Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Our Strategy

We recognize that lives are busy, complex, and often unsatisfying. Cluttered lives almost always affect our relationships in life—whether with God, our family, or others. At The Bridge, we are committed to not cluttering up schedules with a myriad of church activities. We focus on two primary activities to support our mission of making disciples of Jesus:

• Sunday morning worship service

• Community Groups (with their associated relational discipleship)

Additionally, we have what are referred to as Focus Events and Connection Events/Ministries. Focus Events are those events considered crucial to carrying out the primary mission of disciple-making. Connection Events/Ministries may change from year to year. Their primary objective is to provide a bridge or connection opportunity to either a worship service or a community group. Every church-sponsored Connection Event must have a clear path for attracting and connecting the unchurched (including clearly defined and communicated next steps).

Starting Point: Joining the Team

Being part of a church is more than just attending. The Scriptures tell us that we are to be part of a team that works together to achieve God's purposes. We don't go to church; we are the church.

A good analogy of the church is a sports team. On a team, every player is expected to play a part. Players, even star players, are expected to participate with the entire team with the goal of achieving the purposes set forth before the team. Players with egos, players who want to be in charge, players who want to decide when they want to play--all hurt the team.

At The Bridge, we believe a commitment to be part of the team is best represented through church membership. To find out more about The Bridge and what it means to join the team, attend the next Starting Point: Joining the Team.
